The Garden Spot of Indiana
Concrete Contractors in Flora, IN
Replacing worn driveways, steps and garage floors in a town of established homes.
- No-cost site visit, then a written price broken out line by line
- Outdoor pours use air-entrained mix over compacted stone, with joints laid out ahead of time
- Permit and right-of-way rules looked up for your street before a date is set
Replacing the Concrete You Already Have
Flora's housing count has barely moved in two decades, which tells concrete contractors what the work here will mostly be. Census figures show 959 homes in 2000, 969 in 2010 and 972 in 2020. John Flora platted the town in 1872, and it got a post office in 1873. With nearly every house already built, the driveways, walks and garage floors in Flora are existing concrete, much of it old, so replacement and repair make up the core of what we do in town.
How a tear-out works
Replacing a driveway or patio follows the same order every time: 1. We mark utilities and check for any lines under the slab. 2. We saw-cut where the new concrete will meet anything staying. 3. We break out and haul away the old concrete. 4. We check the base. Soft spots get dug out and replaced with compacted stone. 5. We set forms with slope away from the house and toward the street. 6. We pour, finish, cut joints and cure.
Most residential tear-outs and pours take a few days of work, plus cure time before you drive on the new slab.
When the garage floor is the problem
Older detached garages often have the worst concrete on the lot. Floors crack, sink near the door and hold water. A new Garage & Shed Slab with a proper base and a slight pitch toward the door fixes all three. If the garage walls rest on the old slab, we look at how they bear before we plan the tear-out.
Small upgrades that make a big difference
- Sidewalks & Steps: even risers and a handrail-ready landing at the front door
- Concrete Patios: a slab off the back door in place of pavers that have sunk
- Stamped Concrete: a patterned patio when you want more than plain gray
- Concrete Driveways: a wider apron or an added parking pad
- Concrete Repair & Replacement: crack sealing and surface repair on slabs that are still sound
Carroll County winters on old slabs
Flora's older drives and walks have taken decades of freeze-thaw. Look for flaking on the surface, corners that have broken off, and panels that rock when you step on them. Flaking that is shallow and limited can be sealed and watched. Panels that rock have lost their base, and those get cut out, given new compacted stone and repoured. The old concrete is broken up, hauled away and, where possible, sent to be crushed for reuse rather than buried.
Choosing a driveway width
Older single-car drives are often about 10 feet wide. That is tight for a modern pickup with doors open. If the lot allows, a few extra feet makes getting in and out easier and gives snow somewhere to go. For two cars side by side, plan on a much wider drive. We measure what your lot can fit and check any setback or street rules before we suggest a width.
Garden town, garden edges
Flora calls itself "The Garden Spot of Indiana." Gardens and concrete get along if you plan the edges. We leave room for beds where you want them, keep patio and walk slopes away from planting areas so runoff does not wash them out, and set slabs so mowers can run right along the edge.
The town covers about 1.15 square miles in Carroll County at an elevation of 702 feet. We check whether the town needs a permit for your project, especially any work at the street.

Flora Questions
How long will my Flora driveway be out of use?
The tear-out and pour usually take a few days. After the pour, plan on about a week before driving on it. We give you exact dates in the estimate.
Can you replace a garage floor with the garage still standing?
Yes. We break out the old floor inside, rebuild the base and pour new. We check how the walls bear on the slab first.
Should I replace sunken pavers with concrete?
A concrete patio does not shift piece by piece the way pavers can. If you like a pattern, stamped concrete gives a similar look in one slab.
