Concrete for Busy Frankfort Households

Frankfort is a family town, and concrete contractors here get asked about driveways crowded with cars and back yards crowded with kids. In 2020 the city had 16,715 people in 6,068 households, a median age of just 34.0, and children under 18 in 36.8% of homes. That is young for Indiana, and it shows in the projects people ask for: wider drives, bigger patios and a smooth slab under a basketball hoop.

More cars than driveway

A two-car drive gets tight once teenagers start driving. Ways to add room:

  • Widen the drive. We saw-cut a clean edge, dowel into the existing slab and pour the addition.
  • Add a parking pad. A slab beside the drive or garage for a third car, a camper or a work trailer.
  • Replace and resize. If the old drive is cracked anyway, replacing it lets us set a new width and fix drainage at the same time.

Any of these can change how water runs off the lot, so we plan slope before we pour.

Back yards that get used

Concrete Patios for families tend to grow. We often plan a patio in two parts: a table area near the door and a larger, open slab beyond it for play. A smooth trowel finish works for a sport court but is slick when wet, so we keep the main patio in a broom finish. Stamped Concrete is a good choice for the dining area where looks matter most.

Older streets near the square

The 1830 town plat laid out 64 lots in eight blocks around a central square. The courthouse that stands there now is built of Indiana limestone; its cornerstone went in on September 2, 1882. Three neighborhoods, Christian Ridge, South Frankfort and the commercial district, hold National Register status. The older parts of town are where heaved walks, worn steps and narrow drives show up most, and Sidewalks & Steps and Concrete Repair & Replacement are the usual answers there.

A crossroads city

Four highways meet in Frankfort: U.S. 421 and state routes 28, 39 and 75, with I-65 a short way west. With that much road to keep clear, winter salt and brine are part of life. For any outdoor slab we:

  • Use an air-entrained mix that resists freeze-thaw damage
  • Cure the slab properly before it sees its first winter
  • Recommend a penetrating sealer after cure
  • Ask you to skip deicing salt on new concrete the first winter

Planning for snow

Family drives see a lot of shoveling. A few design choices make winter easier:

  • A smooth broom finish shovels cleaner than rough texture
  • Good slope keeps meltwater from refreezing in the middle
  • A wider apron gives room to pile snow without blocking the walk
  • Downspouts routed away from the drive prevent ice sheets

We talk through these during the estimate so the drive works in January, not just in July.

Steps at the front door

On many family homes the front steps get the most traffic of any concrete on the lot. Groceries, strollers and bikes all come through. We pour steps with even risers, deep treads and a landing big enough to stand on while you open the storm door.

Garages and sheds

Garage & Shed Slabs round out the list: floors for detached garages, storage sheds and workshops. Frankfort sits at about 860 feet in Clinton County. We check what the City of Frankfort requires for permits and street work before we schedule your pour.

Frankfort Questions

Can you add a basketball slab to my Frankfort back yard?

Yes. We pour it level with a smooth finish and plan joints to stay out of the main play areas where possible.

Will a widened driveway match the old part?

New concrete starts lighter than old. It evens out somewhat over time, but if a perfect match matters, replacing the whole drive is the way to get it.

Do you serve all of Clinton County?

Frankfort, Rossville and Mulberry are all in our area, and we can tell you quickly whether another Clinton County address is in range.
